The Cat Ferry between Yarmouth, Nova Scotia and Bar Harbour Maine, has returned to service after a three year hiatus. So much to experience in the area. Be sure to visit the light house at Cape Forchu there is a Viking mystery here and some beautiful trails.
If you are headed east on Highway 3, Stop in at Tucket Falls for the Tusket Falls Brewery they have a excellent outdoor patio.
The Acadian Village at Pubnico brings the culture alive. If you are like mysteries, Star trek or UFO’s don’t miss Shag Harbour, Nova Scotia
Called the Graveyard of the Atlantic, the beach is breathtaking and great for birdwatchers too at The Hawk Beach, Cape Sable Island, Nova Scotia. you’ll fid the Drowned-forest-cape-sable-island there too.
If you are headed westward start with Port Maitland beach then head to Marshalltown, for Nova Scotia beloved folk Artist Maud Lewis’s old home location. Next is up Digby and onward up what we call the Neck here is a pirate tale and beautiful cliff scenery at Gullivers Cove.
Take a walk to Balancing Rock, Tiverton, Nova Scotia it is amazing to see that rock balanced so perfectly. Go to the most Western point of Nova Scotia on Briar for the West Port lighthouse and hang on to your hat is can be breezy.

I took this ferry route long ago when I was in my twenties, Lovely voyage. I don’t see a schedule to Portland as you thought , but I will keep looking best regards Kelly

It’s 3.5 hrs from Bar Harbour Maine, which is much faster than driving. I enjoyed my voyage on it many years ago. The community of Yarmouth, realize on it’s tourists so last few seasons have been hard on business in the area. I don’t usually give business recommendations but I this once for the reopenng. I’ll give them a little plug 👍

Thank you for letting us all know the ferry’s functional again! I took its predecessor decades ago, to meet up with a sloop and sail back to Mt. Desert, and loved it – whales and all! It’s faster now, with the cat, and I may consider taking it up if I head back to PEI this summer.

It’s a is great. zoom you there in little over 3 hrs. I too took the predecessor. The former ferries bell and a few other items are on display in Yarmouth outside the tourist office.

Good sailing to know about. Do you know if these are currently any COVID test regulations after this ferry ride when one lands in Yarmouth?
